Financial Aid Information
Two times each year, a representative from MI Student Aid comes to Ubly to discuss MI Achievement and MI Student Aid options. He works through with students the importance of completing the FAFSA.
As of the Spring of 2025, all Ubly seniors must complete the FAFSA, or complete the waiver, in order to graduate. Completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is important because it determines your eligibility for various types of financial aid to help pay for college. Here are some key reasons to complete the FAFSA:
- Access to Federal Financial Aid: FAFSA is required to be considered for federal grants (like Pell Grants), work-study programs, and federal student loans. These financial aids are often more affordable than private loans or other sources of funding.
- State Financial Aid: Many states offer financial aid programs, such as grants and scholarships, which also require FAFSA submission to qualify.
- College Scholarships: Some colleges and universities use FAFSA information to determine eligibility for institutional scholarships, grants, or other forms of aid.
- Work-Study Programs: FAFSA may help you qualify for work-study, which allows you to earn money through part-time employment while in school.
- Financial Planning: Completing the FAFSA helps you and your family better understand the costs of college and explore different financial aid options. It can also provide a clearer picture of your financial need.
- Eligibility for Loans: Federal student loans usually offer better terms (like lower interest rates and deferred payments) than private loans, and they require FAFSA submission.
In short, completing the FAFSA maximizes your chances of securing financial support, making higher education more affordable and accessible.
